Frequently Asked Questions
How long will my paving project take to complete?
The amount of time it takes to complete a job is based entirely on the job. Most jobs are completed within 1-2 days. A larger residential area (such as aparment complexes, etc.) or larger commercial areas may take several days as they will be broken up into sections in order to minimize disruptions. We always do our best to schedule around your hours of operation to ensure the job goes as smoothly as possible.
How long after asphalt paving is completed can I drive on it?
Usually curing has completer within about 24 hours. This may vary based on the job and exact weather conditions. For example, if the weather is especially hot (which is luckily is rare in the Rochester area), we may recommend 48 hours for proper curing.
Why is using asphalt better than using concrete paving?
Not only is ashpalt far more affordable, it is also much easier and cheaper to repair if cracks or potholes form, has a much shorter curing time and generaly holds up a lot better under heavy loads. Ashphalt also handles temperature swings and harsh climate conditions much better than concrete. Although some concrete companies insist a concrete driveway will last longer, concrete cracks and other issues can’t be as easily repaired and will typically require a significantly larger tear out and more concrete repaving to repair the driveway to acceptable aesthetic and quality standards.
What’s the difference between cold mix and hot mix asphalt?
Hot mix asphalt is the type usually used by professional asphalt contractors because it provides better, longer-lasting results. Hot mix must be heated before being applied, whereas cold mix can be purchased at most hardware stores and applied without any heating preparation.
Cold mix asphalt is a cheaper DIY (do-it-yourself) option that may temporarily be used to fill potholes or other asphalt damages. However, it is nearly impossible to properly patch a pothole with cold mix asphalt. When the time comes to need to schedule professional repair Westside Maintenance will be ready to properly patch your pavement with hot mix asphalt.
